6 lithops seeds. Lithops, also known as living stones, are succulent plants without stems that have evolved to resemble stones, thereby avoiding being consumed by animals in their natural habitat. They originate from some of the driest regions in South Africa, and as such, they require very minimal watering, with some species surviving purely on mist and fog for their moisture needs.

The lithops plant consists of two thick, fleshy, and fused leaves that are adept at storing water required for its survival. A fissure or slit at the top of the leaves provides an outlet for the emergence of new leaves and flowers. Due to their low water needs, lithops make ideal houseplants, thriving in environments with minimal watering requirements. They occasionally produce yellow or white, daisy-like flowers during summer.

Growing Instructions

To grow lithops from seed, prepare a pot with free-draining cactus compost and additional grit. Water the compost and allow to drain. Sprinkle lithops seeds over the surface and cover with a fine layer of sand or vermiculite. It is not necessary to cover the seed with anything if you can keep the soil consistently moist. Keep slightly moist until germination occurs, and then gradually reduce watering. In just under a year they are ready for transplanting.
