These cacti are mostly found in Mexico, but also in other countries such as the USA, Caribbean, and South America. Mammillaria is a very popular genus among cactus enthusiasts, with collectors and societies dedicated to its cultivation. Over the past 30 years, approximately 50 new species have been discovered. The genus is characterized by its unique areole structure with split parts, and its small, globose to elongated shape with radial symmetry, as well as its flowers and fruits.

Growing Instructions
Mammillaria plants are generally easy to grow, with the exception of miniature species that require constant attention or grafting. To grow these plants, start by disinfecting the pots and preparing the soil by sifting out any large or hard pieces and adding tiny gravel/fine sand (a cactus soil mix will work perfectly). Sow the seeds in small pots and place them in a tray of boiled and cooled rain water, then put them in a heated mini-greenhouse for germination. After three months, the seedlings can be moved to adult living conditions, and after six months they can be re-potted. It's important to note that several Mammillaria species are threatened with extinction due to over collecting and habitat destruction, and nursery-bred specimens can help to preserve these plants while also providing a good opportunity for cacti breeding and growth experience.
