15 Parlour Palm seeds. Chamaedorea elegans, the Parlour Palm, is a palm shrub that is found in Central America. It can reach 3 meters high. It makes an excellent pot plant and interior plant, especially because of its air purifying qualities. The foliage is a dense and evergreen tuft of a brilliant green colour. Long and sleek stems wear the curved and palmed leaves. As the name suggests, few palms are more suitable for growing indoors than the parlor palm (Chamaedorea elegans). The parlor palm grows in average indoor light (or even artificial light) and temperatures and requires no pruning other than an occasional tidying of dead branches. Parlor palms flourish in above-average humidity and might attract spider mites if conditions are very dry.

Growing Instructions

The ideal temperature for this plant is between 18 and 24°C.

Use a mix of humus and rich, well-drained garden soil or any high-quality peat-based potting mix. Plant your seeds half an inch deep. Water regularly without letting the soil dry out between waterings. Place a plate under your pot to collect the excess water. Place it under mid-shade and keep it at temperatures exceeding 20°C. Use a fertilizer once every three weeks for better results. The growth for this plant is slow, and can take several months, don’t get discouraged. The warmer the soil is the faster the seeds will germinate, using a heat mat is ideal and should be set at between 24 and 30°C. Using a propagator lid or plastic wrap to keep conditions warm and moist are ideal, remove once the seeds have started to germinate.
