Growing Instructions

The date palm seedling will emerge from the soil a short distance away from the actual seed. Seeds shouldn't be planted especially deep, and expect germination to take several weeks at least. It grows best in a peat-based potting mix with good drainage is best used. Two parts peat and one perlite or sand work fine. Soak seeds for at least 2hrs before sowing. Sow anytime of year. Cover seeds with 5mm of compost. Keep in dark place until germinated. Date palm prefers an average room temperature of 16 to 24°C. Germination should take place within 2-6 months.

To improve humidity mist the leaves during the summer (if the air becomes dry) and when the air is dry from artificial heating. Water moderately but consistently during the growing season, Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Allow the top one inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering during the winter season.
