20 Red Yucca Hesperaloe Parviflora seeds. Red Yucca forms an elegant fountain of long, narrow blue-grey leaves edged with fine white curling filaments. From late spring through summer, tall wiry stems rise dramatically above the foliage, bearing pendulous clusters of rich salmon-coral tubular flowers beloved by bees and hummingbirds. Exceptionally drought tolerant and virtually maintenance free once established, this striking architectural plant thrives in full sun and free-draining soil, tolerating temperatures to -15°C. A stunning, long-flowering addition to gravel gardens, borders, and containers.

  • Flowers for months — spectacular coral-red blooms from May to September on dramatic 1.5m spikes
  • Virtually indestructible — drought tolerant, frost hardy to -15°C and thrives on neglect
  • Wildlife magnet — irresistible to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds
  • Architectural year-round interest — beautiful blue-grey arching foliage with distinctive white leaf filaments

Growing Instructions

  • Sow indoors with bottom heat — a propagator set to 20–25°C gives the best results
  • Scarify and soak first — lightly sand the seed coat then soak in hot water for 12–24 hours until seeds visibly swell
  • Use very gritty compost — a 50/50 mix of seed compost and perlite or coarse grit is essential; cover seeds with a thin layer of fine grit not compost
  • Germination takes 2–4 weeks — keep compost barely moist and don't discard pots for at least 8 weeks as some seeds are slower
  • Maximum light after germination — move to the brightest position available and water sparingly, allowing compost to almost dry out between waterings
  • Grow on for a full season before planting out into a sunny, very free-draining spot — once established it is drought tolerant and hardy to -15°C
