Amaranth – Why is it good for you?

Amaranth is a nutritious, gluten-free grain that provides plenty of fibre, protein and micronutrients. It has also been associated with a number of health benefits, including reduced inflammation, lower cholesterol levels and increased weight loss.

The nutrients in amaranth can offer significant health benefits as a part of a healthy diet. It's a source of vitamin C, which is vital to the body's healing process because it helps process iron, form blood vessels, repair muscle tissue, and maintain collagen. This in particular makes it a great boost to the anti-ageing regime, after all, prevention is better than cure!

Amaranth is also an excellent source of fibre, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and a good source of calcium, zinc, copper, selenium, vitamin B6 and folate. Fibre rich foods also help you to feel fuller sooner which is why it can help with weight control.

There are different ways of ingesting Amaranth. One way is by growing them as microgreens to add to your salads or meals as a garnish, you can buy the seeds here. Or you can grow the actual plant in full which will take a lot longer, but will eventually give you an abundance of never ending healthy goodness to be used as a baby leaf in salads or cooked exactly like spinach (it tastes very similar too!). You can find the seeds for the plant here.

Remember, all our seeds come with instructions (should you choose the full packaging, if not they are on the website to refer back to). Also, they are incredibly easy to grow, so you won’t have any problems getting them going. If you are looking for some growing advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us, we are always more than happy to give professional advice.
